LEAD FLORAL DESIGNER

N O W   H I R I N G!
 
We are in search of a talented & dynamic Lead Floral Designer at Jen House Design.
 
We are Based out of Plymouth, Michigan but service weddings and special events all over Southeast Michigan. We are a boutique floral design company that does NOT provide retail florals, we focus on events only.
 
Relevant Skills & Experience:
Lead Floral Designer duties include but are not limited to, helping to manage the processing of all florals that enter our design studio -- bucketing, pruning, etc. Must understand the basics of working with florals and maintaining the health of flowers. Hands on floral creation ranging from bouquets to centerpieces and everything in between. Have no fear! We are more than happy to coach and teach in areas that a seasoned designer might have less experience with, but at least 1-2 years floral design/artistry experience is required.
 
Our Lead Floral Designer will also assist us in leading our team in setting up events, making sure every last detail is executed beautifully and to spec! Some on-site creation is sometimes involved including floral arches, laying garlands, etc.. Our Lead Designer should have an eye for design and color and be able to "style" things within the design plan (candle & hard goods placement, etc.) and should be very detail oriented & thorough.
 
Relevant Soft Skills:
All candidates must possess good attention to detail, a healthy and balanced work ethic, have proficiency in professional and interpersonal communication skills, be an honest human and have personal integrity. Candidates should possess good “people skills”, and feel confident communicating with clientele and venue staff. Candidates should work well in a group setting, be flexible, non-judgmental, open minded, be coach-able, enjoy learning, have a general generosity of spirit and have the ability to work on a deadline when necessary.
 
Hours & General Requirements:
Our Lead Designer position averages 30+ hours per week, but schedule varies weekdays and weekends and flows with our event schedule. Some late night hours (on weekends only) will vary, and you will be additionally compensated for late night hours. Must be able to lift at least 20lbs, and MUST have reliable transportation. Will work in Plymouth primarily and in various locations around metro Detroit on Friday/Saturday. This position has a definite opportunity for growth within the company including sales, designing orders etc. and we encourage it.
 
General Hours:
Tuesday- Thursday (9:30am-4pm)
Friday/Studio (9:30am-4pm)
Friday/Event (varies 3-6 hours)
Saturday/Event (varies 3-6 hours)
Sunday/Monday Closed (typically)
 
*The above can vary based on event week/needs, candidates should expect this as the general work schedule but should be flexible. And, we are flexible as well so please let us know if you have any scheduling conflicts that would differ from the above example of a typical work week and we can discuss and potentially accommodate.

DESIGN ASSISTANT

JHD is now hiring Design Assistants! We are in search of creatives, artists and/or floral enthusiasts looking to work & learn about floral design, while flexing their creative skills and artistry with a living medium. Bonus if you’ve worked with florals before, but not required! Those interested in or studying the creative & visual arts will thrive in this position.
 
We are Based out of Plymouth, Michigan but service weddings and special events all over Southeast Michigan. We are a boutique floral design company that does NOT provide retail florals, we focus on events only.
 
Relevant Responsibilities & Skills:
Our Design Assistants will aid in the preparation and conditioning of flowers, including pruning, trimming and processing as well as arranging them into a variety of vessels and arrangement styles. Our Assistant Designers will learn to create a variety of floral arrangements and the techniques that are applicable. DA’s will help to maintain the flow and efficiency of the studio as well as the cleanliness and organization of the floral workspace. Our Design Assistants will help with inventory management, including restocking floral supplies, hard goods & more. This position is a great support staff position and resume building opportunity that encourages learning/exploration and will help you dive into the very viable art of Floral Design.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

JHD is now hiring Design & Hospitality Interns! We are in search of creatives, artists, event & hospitality students, and/or floral enthusiasts looking to work & learn about floral design, while flexing their creative skills, artistry, organizational skills and passion for the event industry! Bonus if you’ve worked with florals before, but not at all required!  This is a ground level position and we are ready to teach, instruct and coach those new to the industry or newly exploring the art of floral design. Those interested in or studying the creative & visual arts and/or hospitality/event industry will thrive in our “work & learn” floral and event design Internships.

We are Based out of Plymouth, Michigan but service weddings and special events all over Southeast Michigan.  We are a boutique floral design company that does NOT provide retail florals, we focus on events only.

Relevant Responsibilities & Skills:
Our Interns will aid in the preparation and conditioning of flowers, including pruning, trimming and processing, as well as learn techniques in the arranging of a variety of floral arrangements and commissioned items. JHD Interns will help to maintain the flow and efficiency of the studio as well as the cleanliness and organization of the floral workspace. Our Interns will help with inventory management, including restocking floral supplies, hard goods & more.  This position is a great support staff position and resume building opportunity that encourages learning/exploration and will help you dive into the very viable art of floral design & event production.

Our Interns will get the opportunity to assist us in setting up high-level events at a variety of venues across SE Michigan. Interns will help our designers in making sure every last detail is executed beautifully and to spec!  Candidates should be very detail oriented & thorough and tenacious. At JHD we love initiative and curious learners!

As a Freelance Florist, you will be responsible for bringing your unique floral design skills to our projects. You will work closely with our team to conceptualize and create stunning floral arrangements that meet our clients' specifications and exceed their expectations.
 
Relevant Qualifications & Skills:
Proven experience as a freelance florist or in a similar role. A strong portfolio showcasing your floral design work. Excellent creativity and a keen eye for detail. Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with clients and team members. Passion for working with flowers and an understanding of different flower types. Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
